Koreans love their iced beverages even in the depth of winter, according to Starbucks.
The American coffee chain said the proportion of iced drink sales remains above 60 percent, regardless of the season, with customers continuing to seek out iced Americanos in the sub-zero temperatures.
Year-round 77 percent of beverages sold were iced, and across November to February the proportion was still around 61 percent. During the peak summer months of June to August, the proportion reached 89 percent.
A decade ago, iced drinks accounted for less than half of overall sales, but the shift began around 2015, as people in their 20s and 30s comprised about half of total customers.
At Australian coffee chain Paul Bassett, which has around 140 outlets nationwide, cold beverages also outsell hot ones. From December to February, the proportion of iced drink sales among beverages sold was 62 percent.
