LG Chem has opened a research and development center in the U.S. state of Georgia and signed a memorandum of understanding with the Georgia Institute of Technology, it said on Wednesday.
With the center's opening, Korea's leading chemical company plans to expand its cooperation with local businesses there to increase joint research and attract global talent and experts in North America, including Georgia.
LG Chem aims to leverage Georgia Tech's R&D capabilities to drive collaboration in areas such as the commercialization of fundamental technologies and the development of innovative business models. The company will also nurture and recruit new talent.
LG Chem is expected to invest heavily to bring its plans to fruition, as it hopes the facility will become one of the major R&D centers in North America by 2025.
