German carmaker BMW launched its new 5 Series midsize sedan in Korea on Thursday.
Korea is the first market in the world in which the new car has hit showrooms.
The car has undergone a complete change for the first time in six years. It is BMW's flagship model, with over 8 million cars sold worldwide since it debuted in 1972.
It is particularly popular in Korea, where it sold 21,394 cars last year, making Korea the largest market for the car, exceeding China, Germany and the U.S.
The new 5 Series comes in a hybrid version and two electric versions. One notable feature is its increased size with a total length of 5,060 mm, making it 95 mm longer than previous models. The wheelbase, which determines the interior space of the car, has also increased by 20 mm to 2,995 mm.
Along with the launch, BMW announced plans to invest in installing some 1,000 additional electric vehicle charging stations at major locations in Korea by next year, bringing the total number of the carmaker's charging stations in the country to 2,100.
The move will enhance convenience not only for BMW customers but also for other EV drivers.
