A wasteland in Seongsu-dong next to the sprawling Seoul Forest will temporarily open to the public this week.
According to the Seoul Metropolitan Government, the former plant site occupied by Sampyo Remicon stretching some 25,000 sq.m will be turned into an outdoor concert venue for about two years, until construction begins on a huge skyscraper that is expected to be complete in 2030.

Seongsu-dong, once an industrial area still full of auto-repair shops and shoe factories, has been undergoing rapid gentrification, drawing legions of hip and trendy young people as empty warehouses and workshops give way to coffee shops, restaurants and galleries.
Recently, top entertainment mill SM Entertainment also moved its headquarters there.
To celebrate the opening of the venue, a series of concerts by K-pop stars like girl group Aespa and NCT 127, a sub-unit of SM's nine-member boy band NCT, are slated for this weekend.
