More people are expected to hit the road over Chuseok, Korea's biggest holiday of the year.
According to SK Telecom's navigation app TMAP, the best time to avoid congestion for travel from Seoul will be between 11 p.m. on Thursday and 5 a.m. on Friday.
From Seoul, it is expected to take four hours and 20 minutes to get to Busan, three hours and 12 minutes to reach Gwangju and two hours and 35 minutes to reach Gangneung if drivers set off in the early hours of Friday.
The worst traffic is expected to be encountered by those who leave for their hometowns on Wednesday afternoon, as it will take seven hours and 28 minutes to go from Seoul to Busan, six hours and 46 minutes to reach Gwangju and four hours and 18 minutes to get from Seoul to Gangneung.
But no severe traffic jams are expected on the return trip to Seoul as Oct. 2 has been designated as a temporary public holiday this year, ensuring that Koreans enjoy a full week's break including National Foundation day the following day, and also helping to ease traffic congestion.
