Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has expressed his country's support for Busan's bid to host the 2030 World Expo, Japanese media reported Thursday.
Kishida met with President Yoon Suk-yeol in New Delhi on Sept. 10 on the sidelines of the G20 Summit and said his country will vote for Busan at the upcoming Bureau International des Expositions' general assembly in November.
This is the first time the Japanese government has ever explicitly supported another country's bid for the World Expo, Kyodo News said.
It quoted a Japanese government official as saying that this is a response from the Japanese government to the Yoon's efforts to mend ties between the two countries.
