Korea's annual flu vaccination campaign for high-risk groups of children, pregnant women and the elderly began Wednesday. Children aged between six months and 9 years who are getting the flu vaccine for the first time are among the first to be offered the free shots, as they require two doses.
This group will be followed by single-dose vaccinations for children aged 9-13 and expecting mothers starting Oct. 5.
The elderly can get their vaccinations from Oct. 11. The campaign will end on April 30 next year.
Health authorities are urging the public to get their flu shots, as a flu alert has remained in place for more than a year.
