"Sleep" starring Lee Sun-kyun and Jung Yu-mi has attracted over 1 million viewers in less than two weeks since its release on Sept. 6.
According to the Korean Film Council, the film surpassed 1 million viewers in cumulative attendance, buoyed by strong word of mouth.
The low-budget film became the third Korean film to pass the break-even point so far this year after "The Roundup: No Way Out" and "Smugglers."
"Sleep" revolves around newlyweds whose lives descend into horror due to the husband's strange behavior while sleeping.
The horror film was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in May this year and at the Toronto International Film Festival early this month. It was also invited for screening at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in Spain, which opens next month.
