Samsung Medical Center World's 5th Best Cancer Hospital

Samsung Medical Center in Seoul has been rated the world's fifth best cancer treatment hospital and the best in Asia for the second year.

Newsweek magazine surveyed 300 hospitals in 12 fields in 28 countries, and Samsung Medical Center came fifth in the field of oncology. The hospital also ranked eighth in urology and ninth in gastroenterology.

Earlier this year it signed memoranda of understanding with Gustave Roussy in France and The Charité -- Universitätsmedizin Berlin, which are among the best oncology hospitals in Europe.

It also ranked 25th in the world among "smart" hospitals, the highest ranking for Korea.

Asan Medical Center and Seoul National University Hospital were the sixth and ninth best cancer hospitals.
