Lee Kang-in of Paris Saint-Germain Cleared to Play for Korea at Asian Games

Lee Kang-in of Paris Saint-Germain has finally been cleared to join the Korean national team for the Asian Games, which will kick off in Hangzhou, China later this month.

As the Asian Games are not part of the FIFA international calendar, clubs are not obligated to release their players for the event, and the Korea Football Association negotiated with the French club to have Lee take part.

The association said Friday that the French club agreed to clear Lee to join the national team after PSG's UEFA Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund on Sept. 19.

That means Lee will be able to join the team in Hangzhou on Sept. 21.

Korea will play its first group match against Kuwait on Sept. 19 and next face Thailand on Sept. 21 and Bahrain on Sept. 24.

If it finishes in the top two in its group, it will play its round of 16 match on Sept. 27.
