President Yoon Suk-yeol will visit Indonesia and India next week to attend the ASEAN and G20 summits, the presidential office said Thursday.
His first destination will be Jakarta, where he will meet Korean expats and then take part in ASEAN meetings. On Sept. 6, he will attend the Korea-ASEAN Summit and the ASEAN+3 Summit with China and Japan, where he will lay out his vision for cooperation between Korea and the 10-member bloc.
The East Asia Summit (EAS) follows the next day.
On Sept. 8 Yoon meets with Indonesian President Joko Widodo to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and takes part in a business seminar along with around 40 CEOs from major companies in both countries.
He then travels to New Delhi for the G20 summit, where he is expected to explain Korea's proposals for the global climate crisis. Yoon also hopes to drum up support from other leaders for Busan's bid to host the World Expo 2030 -- a tall order after the recent debacle of the World Scout Jamboree.
Meanwhile, Chinese President Xi Jinping will not attend the G20 summit, so there will be no meeting between the two leaders.
