The average age of employees in Korea is forecast to reach 53.7 by the year 2050, according to a report released by the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Thursday.
That is about 10 years older than the OECD average 43.8, and the pace of aging in the workforce could accelerate due to the growing number of working seniors, the report said.
It added that last year, people in their 50s or over held more than half the country's low-skilled jobs, mostly in manufacturing industries, and the situation is likely to worsen down the road.
