Ryu Hyun-jin of the Toronto Blue Jays is making progress on his rehabilitation following an elbow injury and the left-hander is likely to return to the mound next month, just after the Major League All-Star break.
Ahead of a game against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday, manager John Schneider said Ryu will begin live pitching practice this week, meaning that he is almost ready to return to the mound.
Ryu underwent surgery on his elbow in June last year and is currently in Florida working on getting his form back. He also pitched in the bullpen in front of coaching staff at an away game against the Tampa Bay Rays last month.
Ryu signed a four-year contract worth US$80 million with the Blue Jays in December 2019. With the contract ending after this season, he will need to impress in order to remain attractive in the transfer market.
