Cheon Myeong-kwan's novel "Whale" missed out on the U.K.'s International Booker Prize on Tuesday.
The novel translated by Kim Chi-young was among six shortlisted books but lost to "Time Shelter" by Bulgarian Georgi Gospodinov.
This year was the fourth time that a Korean novel was nominated for the prestigious annual award after Han Kang's "The Vegetarian" in 2016, which won, "The White Book" in 2018 and Chung Bo-ra with "Cursed Bunny" in 2022.
The prize, which honors the best novel translated into English and published in the U.K. or Ireland, is shared equally between the author and translator.
