Cho Yong-pil to Hold Concert in May to Mark 55th Anniversary of Debut

Veteran crooner Cho Yong-pil will stage a solo concert at Jamsil Olympic Stadium in Seoul on May 13 as he celebrates the 55th anniversary of his debut this year. He last performed at the venue in 2018 on his 50th anniversary.

Much attention is being given to whether he will perform new songs that will be included on his 20th full-length album set for release later this year to mark the 55th anniversary.

His agency Insight said the concert has a special significance, as it will be the last to be held at the stadium before its renovation. 

Jamsil Olympic Stadium, which opened in 1984, is the largest concert venue in Korea with capacity for more than 50,000 spectators. Holding a concert at such a large venue shows how popular and successful a singer is, so the stadium has been a dream stage for Korean musicians.

The aging stadium, which was the venue for the 1986 Asian Games and the 1988 Olympic Games, will close for three years to undergo renovations starting in June this year.

Cho became the first musician to hold a solo concert at the stadium in 2003 in celebration of his 35th anniversary and has had the most concerts there as a solo singer.

The agency said Cho is in excellent condition and has been rehearsing for the concert.

Information on ticket sales will be announced later this month.
