Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur set a record for an Asian player by making his 55th UEFA Champions League appearance on Wednesday, but Spurs failed to advance to the quarterfinals.
Son started the second leg of Spurs' round of 16 clash against A.C. Milan in London, breaking the previous Asian record of 54 Champions League appearances set by former Manchester United star Park Ji-sung.
However, Son put in another lackluster performance during the home match with only one goal attempt.
He has been struggling with a goal drought this season, and started a couple of recent matches from the bench.
The goalless draw saw Spurs lose 0-1 on aggregate after their defeat in the first leg last month.
Spurs have not lifted any silverware since 2008, when they beat Chelsea to win the League Cup.
