Ko Jin-young Ends Injury Slump with LPGA Victory in Singapore

Golfer Ko Jin-young won the HSBC Women's World Championship in Singapore on Sunday, ending a slump that began when she suffered a wrist injury last summer.

Starting the fourth and final round two strokes ahead of Nelly Korda of the U.S., Ko finished with a 17-under 271 overall, keeping her lead to win the event for the second straight year.

It was her 14th career win and first in about a year. Her two-shot victory also ended a win drought among Korean LPGA golfers that lasted some eight months.

Ko, who shed tears as she walked to the 18th hole, was visibly emotional and called the win her "most important." In fact, Sunday's victory appeared to mark a turning point for Ko, who has struggled with injuries that forced her to take a two-month break and saw her world ranking slide to No. 5 from the top spot on the LPGA.

Ko will carry the momentum of the victory, which signals her full recovery, into the LPGA Drive On Championship in Arizona on March 23.
