Hyundai and affiliate Kia's cumulative sales of electric vehicles crossed the 1 million milestone late last year, 11 years after they sold the first EV.
The carmakers had sold 1.02 million EVs at the end of last year -- Hyundai and luxury brand Genesis 601,448 and Kia 420,836.
Their first all-electric car was Hyundai's compact BlueOn in 2011, which sold 236 units.
The carmakers' combined annual EV sales surpassed 10,000 cars for the first time in 2015 after Kia released the Ray in 2012 and the Soul in 2014. They exceeded 100,000 in 2019 after Hyundai's Kona and Kia's Niro were launched in 2018.
Last year they sold 371,838 EVs thanks to brisk demand for Hyundai's Ioniq 5 and Kia's EV6.
The best-selling model was the Kona (256,907), followed by the Niro (200,302), the Ioniq 5 (165,637) and the EV6 (112,893). Porter and Bongo trucks also sold well with 45,384 and 31,458.
