"The Glory," a new revenge drama on Netflix, has taken the streaming service by storm.
The series, which is written by star screenwriter Kim Eun-sook and stars Song Hye-kyo, ranked ninth on FlixPatrol's daily global chart for TV shows on Netflix on Dec. 31, just one day after its release, and rose to fifth instantly the following day.
It was in the top 10 in 71 countries across the world and ranked at the top in most Asian nations including Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, as well as Korea.
The show tells the story of a woman who suffered brutal bullying in high school and takes well-planned revenge on her persecutors.
The attention the series is drawing globally is rather surprising considering its rather heavy subject matter, which is not considered as typically "entertaining" as other fare.
A factor is Song's performance, as she shows a new, colder side of herself and sheds her typical image from romances as a beautiful and sophisticated sweetheart.
The series consists of two parts of eight episodes each. The already-released first part sets up the revenge and the second part to be released in March will show the actual payback.
