Computer-generated imagery blockbuster "Avatar: The Way of Water" has attracted more than 6 million viewers in two weeks since its release on Dec. 14.
The Korean Film Council said on Wednesday the sequel to James Cameron's 2009 film drew 203,979 moviegoers to 2,200 screens on Tuesday alone to take the accumulated number of viewers to 6.02 million, topping the local box office for two consecutive weeks.
It remains to be seen whether the film can break the record set by the original "Avatar," the first foreign movie to cross the 10-million-viewer mark in Korea. The sequel passed the 6-million mark three days faster than the first installment.
The film revolves around a former human who has become a member of the Na'vi, an alien race living on the extrasolar moon Pandora. As humans return to colonize Pandora, he fights against the humans to protect his family.
