Kim Ye-lim Wins Gold Medal at Grand Prix Series in Japan

    Figure skater Kim Ye-lim won her first gold medal in a Grand Prix series over the weekend.
    In the women's singles event of the NHK Trophy, the fifth event of the ISU Grand Prix series in Sapporo, Japan, Kim won gold with a combined score of 204.49 points -- 72.22 points in the short program and 132.27 points in the free skate last Saturday.
    Kaori Sakamoto of Japan took silver with a combined score of 201.87 points and her compatriot Rion Sumiyoshi won bronze with 193.12 points.

    Kim, who is only the second Korean female skater to achieve the feat after Kim Yu-na did so more than a decade ago, is now invited to compete at the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final next month in Turin, Italy, for which only the top six skaters in each discipline qualify.
