The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety is urging consumers not to be fooled by advertising for shampoos that promise to magically restore hair growth.
The ministry on Monday brought the devastating news to the bald that it has fossicked out no fewer than 172 cases of false and exaggerated advertising for hair-loss shampoos.
Among the fraudulent products, 160 falsely claimed to be effective against baldness or in re-growing hair with slogans like "prevents hair loss" and "strengthens hair thickness."
Such slogans can only be used for medication to treat baldness.
In a parting blow, the ministry stressed that it has not licensed a single shampoo that is actually capable of treating baldness.
Some shampoos are licensed as functional hair-care products, which five products falsely claimed to be when they were not, while seven misled consumers by claiming to deliver nutrients to the dermis layer of the scalp.
