A former passport official faces criminal charges after trying to sell a hat worn by Jung-kook of Bangtan Boys, also known as BTS, for W10 million on eBay (US$1=W1,401).
The hat was advertised on a second-hand marketplace last month, and the seller introduced himself as a Foreign Ministry official complete with ID.
"This is a bungee hat worn by a BTS member who left it behind during a visit to the ministry to make a special diplomatic passport in September last year," the seller said. "It was worn by Jung-kook and looks used but is invaluable."
Jung-kook of Bangtan Boys wears a hat (left) that was later sold on an online second-hand marketplace, in this grab from YouTube.
The seller claimed that he now owns it by right since the owner did not return to claim the hat for more than six months.
After the post went viral, police took steps to investigate the seller, who turned himself in last month. Police are considering charging him with theft of lost property.
Police confirmed that the hat belongs to Jung-kook. The seller was working for the Foreign Ministry on a long-term contract basis when he found the hat but has since left.
