Korean national football team captain Son Heung-min has had surgery for fractures around his left eye as fans hope that he will be able to play in the World Cup after all.
Manager Antonio Conte on Friday said Son will miss Tottenham Hotspur's remaining three matches before the global event kicks off in Qatar on Nov. 20 but added, "I hope for him to recover for the World Cup."
Son suffered four fractures to his left eye socket after colliding with defender Chancel Mbemba during a UEFA Champions League match against Olympique de Marseille last week.
The Telegraph reported that his surgery last Friday was a success and Son still hopes to lead the Korean national team.
"We knew it was crazy to put a World Cup during the League and the Champions League... They are not really worried about the welfare of the players if the schedule is this," Conte complained of football's governing bodies.
