Tottenham Hotspur forward Son Heung-min will undergo surgery after he suffered an injury to his face during a UEFA Champions League match against Olympique de Marseille on Tuesday.
Spurs said in a statement, "We can confirm that [Son] will undergo surgery to stabilize a fracture around his left eye. Following surgery, Son will commence rehabilitation with our medical staff and we shall update supporters further in due course."
Son is the captain of Korea's national football team, and the injury could imperil Korea's World Cup performance as he will probably be out of action when the event starts in Qatar on Nov 20.

Son collided with Marseille defender Chancel Mbemba 23 minutes into Tuesday's match in France. He was seen holding his face in pain and his nose bled as he was escorted off the pitch.
Spurs eventually won the match 2-1 and secured a berth in the round of 16. A photo of the victorious team after the game showed Son smiling but with his left eye swollen shut.

Korea will play its first match in the World Cup on Nov. 24, and it is yet unclear that Son will be able to participate. Korea is making a 10th consecutive World Cup appearance and hoping to reach the knockout stage for just the third time, but without Son the chances are slimming.
