Japan reopened for tourists without visas on Tuesday as the pandemic slows down.
Visitors from 68 countries and regions including Korea can stay for up to 90 days without a visa for the first time in two years and seven months.
Japan also scrapped the cap of 50,000 daily arrivals and ban on independent travelers. It will not require a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of departure if travelers have had three vaccine shots.
The Yomiuri Shimbun said demand is particularly high among travelers from Korea and Taiwan.
