The Korea National Park Service will introduce a reservation system for the most popular trails to prevent overcrowding and the spread of coronavirus ahead of the peak autumn foliage season.
The system will be in place for 27 sections of Korea's hiking trails including Mt. Bukhan, Mt. Jiri, Mt. Seorak and Mt. Taebaek. To make a reservation, visit the website of the agency at https://reservation.knps.or.kr
Meanwhile, health authorities are worried about a rise in cases of the BF.7 variant of coronavirus, which has been spreading quickly in the U.S. and Europe. Korea has reported 15 cases so far.
The rise in COVID reinfections is also of concern. Of the new cases reported in the third week of September, 10.92 percent were reinfections, compared to 9.65 percent from the fourth week of August.
On Thursday morning, the daily tally of new coronavirus infections stood at 28,648 with 29 deaths and 325 severe cases.
