World No. 1 golfer Ko Jin-young will not defend her titles in upcoming tournaments on the LPGA Tour due to a long-standing wrist injury.
She will miss the AmazingCre Portland Classic starting Thursday and the Ascendant LPGA benefiting Volunteers of America scheduled for Sept. 29 in Texas.
After taking a break to seek treatment, she plans to return to defend another of her titles at the BMW Ladies Championship, which opens in Korea on Oct. 20.
Ko had to fight severe wrist pain to win the CME Group Tour Championship, the final tournament of last season, and started this season a little bit late in March at the HSBC Women's Championship, where she claimed a victory with a couple of scoring records.
At that time she said her wrist had gotten better and she felt no restrictions in wrist movement.
However, she performed poorly in her last three events, tying for 71st at the Trust Golf Women's Scottish Open and missing the cut at the AIG Women's Open and CP Women's Open.
It is the first time she has missed consecutive cuts on the tour since she debuted in 2018.
