Hwang Ui-jo of FC Girondins de Bordeaux will join his Korean national teammate Hwang In-beom at Greek club Olympiacos F.C. soon.
French sports media outlet L’Équipe said on Wednesday that Hwang is set to sign with English Premier League club Nottingham Forest, which offered a three-year contract with a one-year loan to Olympiacos.
Forest, who share the same owner as Olympiacos, will pay Hwang 4 million euros as an initial fee with an extra 1 million euros in bonuses, according to L’Équipe.
Hwang, who scored 11 goals and two assists in the French Ligue 1 in the 2021-22 season, will be loaned out to the Greek club immediately without having the chance to play in the Premier League first.
Bordeaux were relegated to Ligue 2 this season after finishing last season at the bottom of the Ligue 1 table. Wolverhampton Wanderers also wanted to recruit Hwang, but Nottingham reportedly submitted a higher bid for the Korean striker.
Nottingham have been promoted to the Premier League this season for the first time in 23 years after winning the English Football League Championship playoffs, and the club could be relegated to the second tier again next season without a good performance.
This means it remains to be seen whether Hwang will play in the top league when he returns from Greece in one year.
