Business Outlook Improves Slightly But Remains Pessimistic

Business sentiment in Korea has improved slightly for the first time in four months, despite lingering concerns over the recent COVID-19 surge and skyrocketing inflation.
The Federation of Korean Industries said on Thursday the business survey index of the country's top 600 companies stood at 95.8 for September, up 8.9 points from the previous month.
Despite the slight improvement, the figure remains far below 100, meaning pessimists still outnumber optimists.
By industry, the indexes for the manufacturing and non-manufacturing sectors stood at 96.6 and 94.8 for September, remaining below 100 since June. As COVID-19 is spreading faster again, non-manufacturing industries including the face-to-face service sector are predicted to be more sluggish than other industries.
