Thunderstorms Move South After Record Flooding

More heavy rains fell in the Seoul metropolitan region and central parts overnight as they were still repairing damage from record flooding earlier this month.

Thunderstorms are expected to move to southern parts and Jeju Island until Wednesday.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the rain front is heading south bringing 30-100 mm of downpours across the country accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Some southern parts will see more than 150 mm of rainfall with high winds of more than 55 km/h across the country.

More damage is feared in areas that already suffered from heavy flooding earlier this month as clean-up efforts continue in its wake.

Fourteen people were killed and six remain missing after floods drenched the Seoul metropolitan area since Aug. 8. A total of 2,280 people have been displaced due to flooding, while 81,857 livestock perished and 291 landslides were tallied.
