Less than half of all married couples in Korea earn dual incomes, according to Statistics Korea.
Government data released Tuesday show 46.3 percent of married couples earned dual incomes last year, up 0.9 percentage point from 2020.
Double-income households had been declining from 5.68 million in 2018 to 5.59 million in 2020 as marriages declined. But the number edged up in 2021 because the number of married households rose again.
The age group with the most dual-income couples are in their 40s with 55.1 percent. The proportion was 53.3 percent among younger couples between 20 and 39, and 50.8 percent among those between 50 to 64.
The average time they worked was 38.5 hours a week, down 1.3 hours on-year -- 41.1 hours for men and 36 hours for women.
