Hyundai and affiliate Kia are maintaining their third place in market share in Europe.

According to the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA) last Friday, the two Korean automakers sold 96,556 cars in Europe last month, up 9.8 percent on-year. Their combined market share grew to 10.2 percent to rank third for the fifth consecutive month. Their performance contrasts with a 12.5-percent decline in overall auto sales in Europe over the period.

Cumulative sales in the first five months of this year surged 17 percent on-year to 454,563 cars or a 10-percent market share, behind Volkswagen (24.2 percent) and Stellantis (19.2 percent). Their performance was buttressed by strong electric car sales in the region, which surged 50.7 percent on-year to 66,106 cars in May.

Hyundai and Kia sells six EVs in Europe -- the Kona, Ioniq, Soul, Niro, Ioniq 5 an EV6.

The Ioniq 5 and EV6 are the first all-electric cars for Hyundai and Kia, and combined sales in Europe have exceeded 50,000 since their launch last year.
