The Seoul city government is seeking to push up the speed limit on another 24 roads with relatively low pedestrian traffic from 50 km/h to 60 km/h.
The limit will be raised in October after a review by police. In March, the city government already raised the speed limit to 60 km/h on 20 roads.
The city capped the speed limit on major roads at 50 km/h and on side roads at 30 km/h on side roads to reduce traffic fatalities, but that triggered complaints from drivers.
A survey the city conducted last October on 1,000 residents showed that 68.8 percent support the overall idea, but 92.2 percent were in favor of raising the limit to 60 km/h on roads with a low pedestrian presence.
