SUV maker Ssangyong on Tuesday unveiled a teaser image and video of its new midsize Torres SUV, which is scheduled to hit showrooms in July.

It is the first new model the cash-strapped automaker has released in three-and-a-half years, since an updated version of the Korando in February 2019.

The gasoline-powered SUV is named after the Torres del Paine National Park in Chile to symbolize its natural toughness and adventurous spirit. It is the successor to the Musso, Ssangyong's popular midsize SUV that was launched in 1993 and taken off the market in 2005.

The Torres will compete with Hyundai's Santa Fe and Kia's Sorento.

Ssangyong will start taking preorders and launch production of the new model next month. The price has not been decided yet.
