Yoon Forms Core Cabinet

    President-elect Yoon Suk-yeol on Sunday announced his picks for eight ministers or around half his Cabinet.

    Tapped as finance minister in the now customary rank of deputy prime minister is two-term lawmaker Choo Kyung-ho, who has previously held key government posts in finance. For defense minister, Yoon picked former vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Lee Jong-sup, who is fervently pro-American.

    Journalist Park Bo-gyoon will be culture minister, cancer specialist Chung Ho-young health minister, former lawmaker Kim Hyun-sook minister of gender equality and family, and Lee Chang-yang, a professor at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, minister of trade, industry and energy.

    Former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong is nominated for land minister while chip engineering expert Lee Jong-ho has been tapped for science and ICT minister.
