The government has ordered 10 million doses of SK Bioscience's new COVID vaccine as a show of support for the as-yet-unproven drug.

The company said Monday it signed a supply contract for GBP510 with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency worth W200 billion (US$1=W1,215).

SK Bioscience developed the vaccine with the University of Washington with US$214 million in support funding from the Bill Gates-led Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations. The vaccine can be stored at normal fridge temperatures and has gone into human trials.

"We hope to get emergency use authorization from the World Health Organization and individual countries in the first half of this year," a company spokesperson said.
