'Squid Game' Given Special Award by American Film Institute

    Netflix's mega-hit Korean series "Squid Game" has been given a special award by the American Film Institute.

    The AFI on Wednesday unveiled its annual list of the 10 best films and TV series produced in the U.S. It said its special awards are "designated for works of excellence that fall outside of the Institute's criteria of American film and television."

    "Squid Game" received the special honor as it became the biggest hit series in the history of Netflix.

    The AFI's film awards went to "Coda," "Don't Look Up," "Dune," "King Richard," "Licorice Pizza," "Nightmare Alley," "The Power of the Dog," "Tick, Tick… Boom!," "The Tragedy of Macbeth" and "West Side Story."

    The top 10 TV series were "Hacks," "Maid," "Mare of Easttown," "Reservation Dogs," "Schmigadoon!," "Succession," "Ted Lasso," "The Underground Railroad," "Wandavision" and "The White Lotus."
