Kia will stop selling non-electric vehicles in European countries by 2035, and in other major markets by 2040.

Kia announced its carbon neutrality strategy last week, paving the way for a transition away from fossil fuels.

In joining the global effort to fight climate change, the automaker aims to reduce carbon emissions by 97 percent from 2019 levels by 2045, gradually phasing out combustion engine cars from the global market while beefing up its EV lineup. It also aims to power all of its manufacturing plants with renewable energy by 2040.

Kia's first fully electric vehicle, the EV6, came out in August.
