Former Prosecutor-General Yoon Suk-yeol was chosen as the presidential candidate of the People Power Party last Friday.

Yoo won 47.85 percent of the total votes over rival Hong Joon-pyo's 41.5 percent. Former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min won 7.47 percent and ex-Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong 3.17 percent.

The PPP tallied the votes of party members and the results of a public opinion poll to choose its candidate. Yoon fell around 10 percentage points behind Hong in the opinion poll but won by more than 20 percentage points in the party vote.

Yoon stepped down as prosecutor-general in March this year and announced his presidential bid in late June. His luster as a champion of justice in the face of government sleaze has since faded somewhat due to a number of gaffes and questions about his family's integrity.
