The number of female executives at Korea's 100 biggest companies has surpassed 300.

According to headhunter UnicoSearch, out of some 6,664 executives working at the companies, the number of female executives stood at 322 in the first half of this year, up 36 from last year's 286. It is also the first time the figure exceeded 300 since relevant data began to be compiled in 2004.

In 2004 there were a mere 13 female executives, but the number surpassed 100 in 2013 and exceeded 200 in 2018.

The number of companies with at least one female executive rose from 60 in 2020 to 65 this year. Their proportion has also risen steadily from 3.5 percent in 2019 to 4.8 percent in 2021, despite a decrease in the total number of executives.

Kim Hye-yang of UnicoSearch said, "There is a growing tendency to prefer women for positions of all levels, including executives, at workplaces."
