Korean series "Squid Game" has become the most-watched program ever on Netflix.

The global streaming giant tweeted Wednesday that the dystopian series "has officially reached 111 million fans" 17 days after its release, "making it out biggest series launch ever."

The previous top-ranked drama series four weeks after release was "Bridgerton" (82 million fans), followed by "Lupin" (76 million), "The Witcher" (76 million), "Sex Life" (67 million) and "Stranger Things" (67 million).

But "Squid Game" set a new record for Netflix not only in the drama category, but also in the movie category, beating "Extraction" starring Chris Hemsworth (99 million).

"It took 10 years for 'Squid Game' to be released, but just 17 days to be loved by 111 million people. We thank you sincerely for your deep interest," Netflix Korea said.

"Squid Game" was among the daily top 10 shows on Netflix in 94 countries and in the U.S. it remained No. 1 among series in a language other than English for 22 days.
