Bankruptcies Hit Record in Pandemic

A record number of corporate bankruptcies were filed last year as lockdown crippled businesses up and down the country. Personal bankruptcies also hit a five-year high.

According to data from the Supreme Court on Monday, 1,069 corporate bankruptcies were filed last year, the first time they surpassed 1,000 since relevant statistics began in 2006.

Some 50,379 personal bankruptcies were also filed in 2020, up 10.45 percent from the year before.
