Airline bookings for overseas trips are resurging as some countries drop entry quarantine restrictions for vaccinated travelers.
According to Asiana Airlines on Thursday, more than 1,000 people have booked flights to Saipan scheduled until the end of the year.
The airline said as vaccination rates grow in Korea, the demand for travel also grows, leading to an increase in flight reservations in a "travel bubble" with some U.S. overseas territories.
The destinations are hardly the most desirable at normal times, being far-flung U.S. territories with a handful of golf resorts and military bases, but such is pent-up demand that even they appeal more than staying home as fall closes in.
On Sept. 18, ahead of the Chuseok holiday, an Asiana flight to Saipan was 85 percent full, and most of the 150 passengers were on tour packages. That is the best uptake since Korea and Saipan opened the bubble.
