Genesis ranked second in the category of luxury brands in the latest car quality ratings by U.S. consumer ratings firm J.D. Power.

Genesis had ranked top for four years since 2017 but ceded the top spot to Lexus this year.

J.D. Power ranks new cars by quality based on complaints from customers who have had hands-on driving experience for three months after purchase. The lower the points, the higher customers' satisfaction.

For this year's ratings, a total of 224 models of 32 brands that have been rolled out since last November were rated.

Genesis scored 148 points, four points more than Lexus due to some complaints about customer convenience. In the overall brand ratings, Genesis finished seventh, flanked by stablemates Kia in sixth and Hyundai in eighth.

But the three Korean automakers led the ratings with seven top-ranked vehicles including the Genesis G80 and the Kia Carnival. Toyota came next with six.
