Korea has reached the semifinals of the women's Olympic volleyball tournament for the first time in nine years.
Korea beat Turkey 3-2 in five sets in a quarterfinal match at Ariake Arena at the Summer Olympics in Tokyo on Wednesday.
All the players exhibited solid teamwork around captain Kim Yeon-koung, who earlier made it clear that it would be her final Olympic appearance. Despite being ranked lower than other teams participating in the Olympics at 14th in the world, Korea has beaten higher-ranked teams such as fourth-placed Turkey, fifth-ranked Japan and sixth-ranked Dominican Republic.
Korea reached the semifinals at the 2012 Olympics in London and the quarterfinals in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
It will face Brazil in the semifinal on Friday, while the final is scheduled on Sunday.
