The summer heat wave is expected to reach 36 degrees Celsius this week as muggy conditions increase discomfort.

But first high winds and heavy rain showers of up to 30 mm per hour buffet the country on Monday. Once the rain front clears, a North Pacific high-pressure front will boost temperatures in central and southern parts.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said daytime highs in Seoul and Daegu will rise to 35 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday, while Chuncheon in Gangwon Province and Daegu will see temperatures of 36 degrees on Friday.

Next week, daytime highs will also hover around 35 degrees.
