Park Hoy-jun finally made his Major League debut last Friday after spending seven years in the minor leagues following his signing with the New York Yankees in 2014.
Park appeared as a pinch hitter in the bottom of the seventh inning against the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium, grounding out to first base. He remained in the game as a new right fielder from the top of the eighth inning, instead of in his usual infield position.
Park is the 25th Korean to play in the MLB. When he was in his final year at a high school in Bundang, Gyeonggi Province, he signed a deal worth US$1.16 million with the Yankees, and began playing with an affiliated minor league team the following year.
