The current lockdown has been extended for three more weeks until July 4, health authorities said Friday.

Coronavirus vaccinations are slightly picking up pace, and while only 10 million people have had at least one jab, the government is mulling a gradual easing from next month.

Under new guidelines being finalized by the Health Ministry, restaurants, cafés and bars in the capital region will probably be able to open again until midnight from July.

The ministry wants to ease restrictions as vaccination of the elderly and vulnerable groups will be completed by late June and lockdown fatigue is reaching a critical point.

Restaurants and karaoke parlors currently have to close their doors at 10 p.m. and night clubs and bars have been shut completely.

Initially the government wanted to lift all restrictions, but then it came up with the midnight closing time because it fears anarchy.

The new guidelines are still being fine-tuned and will be announced next week.

The daily tally of new coronavirus infections stood at 556 as of Friday morning.
