Korea Gears up for Series of World Cup Qualifiers

    Korea will play a series of matches in the second round of Asian qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar this weekend and in the coming weeks.

    Footballers have begun training in Paju, Gyeonggi Province ahead of the matches against Turkmenistan on June 5, Sri Lanka on June 9 and Lebanon on June 13. All of the matches will be played in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

    Key footballers playing overseas such as Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur, Hwang Ui-jo of FC Girondins de Bordeaux and Hwang Hee-chan of RB Leipzig arrived here last week.

    Several other overseas-based players including Kim Moon-hwan of Los Angeles FC, Kim Jin-hyeon of Cerezo Osaka and Kim Young-gwon of Gamba Osaka are expected to arrive on Tuesday for training.

    Na Sang-ho of FC Seoul was excluded from the squad due to a hamstring injury.
